Treatment

I am producing a magazine which I am going to call Popular, which will be white writing, that has pink and orange shading in it, with a pink background, the background will be made up of squares which are bright pink and circles which are a lighter shade of pink, the squares will have a white outline. I will be producing the front cover, contents page and a double page spread. It will be a mainstream magazine mainly about pop music. It is going to be aimed at girls who are aged between 12 and 16 years old. I am going to have a young female (Harriet) on the front of my magazine so that girls would see her as an ideal self. I am going to have her wearing a summery dress with flowers on it and for my double page spread photo I want her to be holding a flower. The fonts I will use on the front cover are Tabitha and Rockwell. My writing will be in pink, yellow and white to math the summery theme of my magazine. For each of the different pages she will be in a different pose.

For my contents page I am going to take photos of some other artists/bands so that it looks like a contents page from an actual magazine. I will be using two of my friends to make up a band to go on the contents page.

I will be taking photos for the front cover, contents and double page spread. The photo on the front cover will be a medium close up of my chosen artist; she will be wearing a summery dress. This will fit in with my colour theme of orange and yellow with some pink. She has long blonde hair and for the cover photo I want it too be wavy and look natural so it gives a feeling of summer. I also want her to look into the camera so that she is connecting with the audience. I will also take photos of my artist for my contents page and double page spread. For my double page spread I am going to take a photos with a background and photos against a back drop to see which looks better.

For my double page spread I am going to do an interview with my main cover artist, which will talk about still fitting school work and exams in with being famous and doing concerts. The layout of my double page spread will be a pull quote at the top of the page which will make the reader want to read the article. On the left hand page will be a photo and the article will be on the right side. The article will be in three columns and have 2 pull quotes amongst the article. I think I am going to call my article “be a social butterfly…” as it fits with what I am going to write about in my main article.

I am going to make sure there are no wires where someone could fall over them whilst I am taking the photos for my magazine as this could be dangerous. I will also make sure that there is no tables or chairs in the way that someone could fall over. I will make sure that the camera is fully charged so it will last the duration of the shoot without running out of battery.

Target

Monday 2nd March 2009
Last week I completed my college magazine front cover and contents page, learning how to use Quark and Photoshop and then learnt how to upload a Quark document onto my blog.
I still need to finish my research on Bauer and IPC Media for next week.

Today I have learnt about different target audiences and different types of music.

Starter Task - Tuesday 3rd March 2009
Yesterday I learnt who (age, gender etc.) would read a magazine based on the front cover.

Mainstream magazines are magazines which are targeted at a wide audience.
Niche magazines are targeted at a small and more specific audience.
