Kerrang magazine is a niche magazine aimed at metal music fans. The magazine is aimed at both male and female audiences. It is aimed at males because the images of male band members represent an ideal self. It is aimed at females because it has a pink colour theme which connotes femininity and also the images of males represent ideal partners.

PUGS – It is in the bottom left hand corner of the magazine to tell the audience the date, issue number and price.

The masthead of the magazine is all in capitals with an exclamation mark at the end; it is the same as on other issues so regular buyers can recognise it as Kerrang. It also has a smashed effect on it which is on every issue.
The main image on the magazine is of Charlie from Fightstar, he is looking directly at the camera so he is engaging with the audience, so they feel more involved. Females buying this magazine would see him as an ideal partner, so they would buy it because it has him on it. Men would see him as an ideal self as he is in a band and he is represented as being good looking and popular with females. In the picture his face is a lot brighter than the background colours to make him stand out.

The main cover line for splash article is ‘Fightstar’ “I’m not scared of putting myself in the firing line…” The choice of words fits with his ‘rock star’ image which makes the reader think he is not scared about what people think about him and his band.

The banner at the top of the page is the same layout as other issues of Kerrang. It is clear and shows the reader what other articles in the magazine will be about, which may also attract someone to buy the magazine. The ‘Plus!’ banner may also attract people to buy the magazine.

The other images used on the front of the magazine have been used to advertise free posters in side and to advertise another article in the magazine. All the images on the front of the magazine are male, this is to attract both male and female readers as they males would see them as an ideal self and females would see them as ideal partners.
